The study polled a total of 945 respondents from various job functions varying from administrators and support to IT management and systems development, and across seven Asian economies: China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

India contributed 508 participants to the survey. Of these, 176 of them had less than 5 years of working experience in the industry and 254 had between 5 and 10 years, while 78 had more than 10 years' worth of experience.

In terms of pay, those in IT management within the country's IT, Web and telecom sector head the top earners list with an average annual salary of just over 1 million rupees, trumping their counterparts in the legal and finance sector who earn 986,500 rupees a year.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Program is a nation-wide project, created to enhance the growth and development of India's entrepreneurial economy. The Program is equally funded by Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India) and Lockheed Martin Corporation, and was developed with the assistance of the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum, the University of Texas IC² Institute and FICCI.

The overall goal of the Program is to accelerate the launch of Indian early-stage technologies into the global marketplace.

The program features a competitive selection process. Selected participants may receive specialized training and funding opportunities. Top selectees will also be eligible to receive professional business development support to assist them in entering global markets.

  • The Top applicants will be selected to participate in training and commercialization activities:
    • Attendance at an Entrepreneurial Workshop focused on technology commercialization.
    • A detailed QuickLook© technology commercialization strategy and recommendations report prepared by the IC² Institute.Participation in an Indian Technology Expo.
    • Automatic enrollment in the DST - Lockheed Martin Innovator Competition, judged by an international panel of technology and business experts. Awards will be granted for the top prospects for commerciallization in the coming year.
  • The Gold Medal winners from the DST - Lockheed Martin Innovator Competition will be invited to work with commercialization experts from FICCI and IC² Institute to pursue appropriate business engagements in the U.S., India and other global markets.

Programme Process

Step 1. Apply to the Program - Interested innovators should apply to participate in the Program using the on-line application form.
Step 2. First Screening - Applications are evaluated to select the top 100 innovations. The 60 selectees are invited to participate in a Commercialization Strategy Workshop.
Step 3. Commercialization Strategy Workshop - Top 60 innovators are invited to attend a 3-day Commercialization Strategy Workshop at the FICCI campus in Delhi. Specific dates are to be determined.
Step 4. Second Screening - The top 100 innovations are selected from the group of 60. These innovators will receive a professional assessment of their innovation, the Quicklook Technology Evaluation Report and will be invited to attend the Entrepreneurship Workshop.
Step 5. The top 50 innovators receives a QuickLook commercialization assessment, prepared by the professional staff members of the IC² Institute.
